Hello dudesndivorce.com guys!
Are you like me? Do you find it so easy to form “bad’ habits but extremely hard to form “good” ones? I’ve heard it said and I’ve read it many times too if you can repeat a habit daily for 30 days it has become ingrained in you. My only comment to that is BULLSH@#!!! I have diligently tried to acquire a new “good” habit before and followed the new regimen daily for 30 days only to completely forget it on day 31!
But a “bad” habit, oh I’ve got that formed in a matter of microseconds! If the Guinness Book of World Records had a category for fastest bad habit former, pal, my name and face would be all over it!
So, by the same token, I’ve had to learn to be good at breaking “bad” habits. I know their are a lot of tricks one can use. For example associating the “bad” habit mentally with some horrible thought or image or feeling to make it repugnant to you. Or reminder tricks to make yourself pay attention to what you are doing so you stop the habit. Or just simply getting the help of friends or family. I’ve even heard of hypnosis being tried. But what works for me is something that has stood the test of time again and again, it’s simple and quite effective.
I just keep telling myself “NO” until it really gets driven into my thick skull. Yeah, you might be saying “Oh, that old line again!” But it works. Like I have learned before; KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid!!! Don’t overlook simple. Sometimes it’s the most effective means to get something done.
See ya later,
Russ
