Russell’s Introduction
Hey Guys! How are ya?
Let me introduce myself, I am Russell a late 40’s divorced man with 3 adult children (yes, I started young!). I married about within a year of graduating High School then about 5 weeks later I went off to basic training for the military. Where I spent 20 frustrating years until I “retired”. The frustration in part due to the military experience, in part due to my marriage. We really were incompatible but I didn’t want to fail in what I viewed as THE most important thing I could do in life, be part of a family, to be a father, to be a husband. So I stayed in it longer than I probably should have, to the detriment of all involved. But that is over all. And I move on.
As for myself, I enjoy reading. Mainly historical biographies (but larger scope historical books too), military strategy, sports (particularly biographies of sports figures or events I find interesting, mainly those from American football), some sci-fi and fantasy (How can I not read Tolkein’s “Lord of the Rings”?), also economics, and atlas’s (yeah, I’m, a map NUT! I at one time had 8 atlas’s in my bookcase!) Basically anything revolving around social studies, that really turned me on as a child in school and really inspires my personal studies now. I am also studying the Chinese language, both spoken and written. I have always been fascinated by Far Eastern cultures and hope to one day extensively travel throughout that part of the world.
I enjoy cooking and eating new foods. I like Chinese, Korean, some Japanese, some Philipino, Mexican, German, Italian, some Greek, and many other foods!
I like American football, particularly the National Football League, and soccer, the real original football! I also enjoy hiking and fishing and canoeing.
And I really enjoy watching old movies! Give me Jimmie Stewart, Bogie, Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn,Bob Hope, and Martin and Lewis and the Marx brothers any day! Even a good old musical or two is fine with me. I also like more modern stuff sure. I’m a Star Trek geek and I enjoy many super hero movies, I like comedies (“The Blues Brothers”, “Strange Brew”, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”), even some romantic comedies (“Notting Hill”, “When Harry Met Sally”), but I am often drawn to what I refer to as “character” movies. “Character” movies have story lines that focus on an element of a persons character. In other words, to show strength, integrity, honesty, or faith. I like those movies. Call them inspiring, if you will.
All these go without saying, I like spending time with my friends and family. Now I have the chance to watch my grandkids grow up. Me with grandkids! Ouch! But there are few joys in life like holding and kissing your own grand baby, or watching with satisfaction one of your children with their first child handling them with love and care. Makes you feel, despite all the mistakes you may have made in life, you got something right.
Well, I hope all this gives you some insight into me. If you have any questions or just want to chat contact me at thedudes@dudesndivorce.com.
See Ya!
Russ

I have no idea what you guys are doing but it seems OK and maybe you can help. I’m starting a Boston Area group for divorced men and in doing some field work of sorts found your Craigslist ad. I’m a Ph.D. in clinical social work, 61, divorced after 35 years. Prior to this I ran a private practice SERVICES FOR MEN AND THEIR RELATIONS, very successful, but I’m now retired except to get this group going for personal reasons – depression! If you know of or learn of men in the Boston area who may be interested, contact me drbecker@bu.edu or C 781-910-5251. Dr. Michael F. Becker
Where are you guys from?
Glad to hear from you and welcome to dudesndivorce.com! We support you and others who are have the same goals as we do, to try to help men either avoid divorce altogether or (if they must) go through the divorce process. Basically, we are here so men do not have to go it alone.

Good post. I think it is possible to recover from depression, but it takes time and patience. I can’t find any good message boards on the net, can you recommend any?
Great stuff Russ. I did all the writing after bills’ intro. Sorry man. Been there my friend and I like what you are doing. Wish this blog was around 23 years ago in Germany! CMS
